If you’ve never been or, if it’s been awhile, you really need to make Villers-la-Ville a priority. Sure, everyone you have ever met in your life that has visited Belgium has made the obligatory trek to Bruges. But how many can say they’ve experienced the abbey at Villers? It’s friggin’ fantastic! Seriously.
They started building the abbey in 1197, it took a hundred years to complete. Then, in 1797 the French Revolution forced the monks out and it’s been in glorious decay ever since. Fast-forward to now and you have an outstanding day trip just outside of Brussels.
Getting there is easy by car. The train stop is about a 20 minute walk but they do run hourly.

Did you ever go while you were at ISB?
