Alumna takes action to be part of the COVID solution

On August 14th, like many, I was continuing to wait for news regarding advances in curbing COVID-19. I was diligently wearing my face mask. I was social distancing and really not socializing at all. Travel plans had been cancelled. In August, like the previous several months, I felt in a sort of limbo. It was as if I were in a global Waiting Room.

On that very day, ISB superstar, Cindy Hart was not waiting around. She had volunteered to be part of a worldwide virus vaccine trial and was receiving her first dose of a possible vaccine. Of course, there was a 50% chance that she was in the placebo group. Regardless, Cindy was taking a gigantic leap for all of us and the data gained from the trial will certainly move us toward an effective vaccine.

Cindy’s second dose was administered on September 3rd. Again, with no confirmation that she was receiving an actual experimental drug or not, I feel that the anxiety produced would be palpable. I don’t know that I have ‘the right stuff’ to even contemplate Cindy’s commitment BUT, I am forever grateful to Cindy and very proud that ISBers are an awesome group of folks!
